Guided Biofilm Therapy

Updated: May 22

Here at Motcomb Street Dentist our motto is “Teeth for Life”. One of the many ways that we achieve this is with our state of the art AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master machine. This allows us to provide Guided Biofilm Therapy which is the perfect solution for dental biofilm management.

Simply put, dental biofilm is when microorganisms (bacteria) attach to the surfaces in your mouth and is the main cause of caries, periodontal and peri-implant infections. Regular oral hygiene, combined with professional measures such as Guided Biofilm Therapy keeps biofilm under control, for a better oral and systemic health.

Traditionally, removal of calculus was achieved using hand instruments and scalers. This could be painful and invasive and scratch dental and implant surfaces. Polishing would then be carried out with rotary rubber cups and brushes. The whole process was time-consuming, messy and many areas could not be reached effectively. Guided Biofilm Therapy solves all of these problems allowing for a non-invasive treatment, with the highest level of comfort, safety and efficiency.

Guided Biofilm Therapy is truly minimally invasive, safe, effective and gentle to teeth and soft tissues, implants and restoratives. To start, your hygienist therapist will use a disclosing solution to dye all of the biofilm present in your mouth to make it visible.

Next biofilm and young calculus are easily removed using the AIRFLOW® Prophylaxis Master machine. Our hygienist therapists can clean tooth surface stains often caused by tobacco, tea, coffee and wine. This can return your teeth to their original whiteness. It is completely painless, highly effective, and the results are instantly visible.

All of our hygienist therapists are certified and Motcomb Street Dentist is a Guided Biofilm Therapy Certified Practice. Book a visit today and try for yourself!
